Lunchtime Doodle!
Need to get more practice drawing animals….and Kevin Costner :) But seriously, love wolves/huskies, littlest hobo, so this was great fun, and Dances with Wolves is an amaaazing movie, so I thought I’d bang this out on the Cintique over lunch. Plus I’m a massive John Barry fan, so I had the soundtrack on as I was doing this, masterful stuff. I’d love to find time to do a quick Dalton thing like this, maybe whilst listening to Living Daylights score. Ok, thats’a promise! coming soon!

Somehow….in my final tweaking and balancing and stuff when working on this the other day, I managed to lose some of it’s colour - noticed later that it wasn’t as Blue as I wanted. So here’s an updated versino I’m much happier with!
ASTROFUNK! This is just me playing around with getting back into my old comic Astrofunk, this guy being the main villain Lord Byakko. Trying out playing with diferent styles and re-workings, so this is by no means final in sense of character design, style, logo, or anything, but I like where it’s going. Feels exciting to be drawing him again, maybe I’ll do another comic, we’ll see.
Another doodle. Just blocked this sketch in quickly, might use this guy and the other warrior sketches to develop an idea further.
Could I be more excited for Prometheus? Really enjoyed working on this one…I wanted to do a landscape movie pinup, and the idea of the Space jockey shape in the background also being used as the tunnels they are exploring was one of the first things that I put on paper. After that it all came pretty quickly, took a little while to get a likeness I was happy with for Rapace, and Charlize got dropped along the way, but I’m pretty happy with the result. Hope u like it, and not long until the movie is finally with us! Hit me with everything you’ve got Ridley!!!
Prometheus has…not quite landed yet :) Thought I might get the pinup done tonight, but you always find a few little things to tweak in the final stretch. Tomorrow, fingers crossed!
Ok - how’s about a post every day this week! ….finally gathered up a bunch of scribbles from the last month, including holiday doodles and other stuff, so gonna sort them out, colour some up, post them up here. bingo.
This is the first, pencil sketch and then about 20 mins colour underneath in Photoshop.
Back! Finally finished my Ripley Trilogy - Aliens is complete, plus I went back and slightly tweaked some minor balancing issues on the other two, mainly alien 3, hear hair colour and face got a small change. Anyways - done! Mega excited about Prometheus - got my Imax tickets booked for opening night, and working away on my Prometheus pinup. That should be done in a few days, so back real soon!
yo - hey, I’m still here! Been aaway on hol-e-day, but back now with a bunch of stuff to finish off…including this Prometheus pinup I doodled on a rainy day. Infact…I loved the couple of rainy days we got, just sitting most of the day with my sketchbook and french pastries. nom sketch nom.

Progress on my Warrior sketch, thought I’d show how I usually go about colouring
- First up is always block in the character - once that’s done you can easily select the shape and either use a mask or just the lasso to colour in during the next stage. In the second stage I’m picking out diferent Material types - I’m not too worried about final colours at this stage, as long as these areas are identified which again makes them easy to select later - so I pick one colour each for Leather, Metal, Metal 2, Cloth 1, Cloth 2, Bandages etc….this makes it easier to apply any textures or custom brushes to these areas alone.

Did the doodle on the left on the train home last night ( i would do this more if i could guarantee getting a seat! ) and then worked it up at home, will colour it up in between finishing Alien pinups
wasn’t happy with that last Ripley pose, so gone back and tried to something a bit more interesting and dynamic. Getting there, still lots to do though!
